  • DHCo presents “The End,” a piece that captures the uncertainty and chaos surrounding the turn of the millennium in 2000, when the looming Y2K bug sparked global anxieties about technological failure and societal collapse. Blending nostalgia with tension, it reflects collective fear and anticipation, and explores what could have happened if it was in fact, the end.

  • Project U&G, UBC’s Advanced Hip Hop Crew, has been an integral part of UBC’s dance community for more than 15 years. As a student-led team, they aim to foster a positive environment for dancers to build their artistry while making meaningful connections with like-minded students. Their team works together to create dynamic dance projects for both stage and video in addition to offering classes to UBC’s dance community.   • We are a subset of DHCollective Contemporary who have come together to create a contemporary small group focusing on connection and collaboration! For our piece “we don’t eat” we had a different interpretation of the Y2K theme. While many dances focus on the fun and fabulous times of the 2000s, we wanted to focus on the change and uncertainty that came with the Y2K era. Our dance is about the beauty and the struggle and change and growth, and the importance of those around us throughout these trying times. We hope you enjoy!

  • Back to Groove is a nostalgic yet forward-moving exploration of rhythm and soul. Set to a genre-blending soundtrack—from 70s-inspired City Pop to modern funk and instrumental jazz—the piece invites the audience into a dreamy, groove-filled world where music and movement become one. Inspired by the effortless cool of locking and the emotive power of freestyle, Soul Locker brings a playful yet intentional energy to the stage. Through fluid isolations, sharp hits, and subtle storytelling, Back to Groove is a return to the joy of dancing, just rhythm.

  • Our piece "y2cave" symbolizes both a retreat into personal space and a collective journey through the unknown, as we navigate a rapidly evolving world. Even though we encounter struggles along the way, we depend on each other to help us through and learn to express ourselves without limitations.

  • Waacking has its roots in the underground gay clubs of 1970s Los Angeles, from a dance style called Punking. Punking has two elements: Posing and Whacking. The element of Whacking has evolved and is what is most notably known today as the style of Waacking. Waacking/Waacking as a dance style can be visually recognized by the rolling of the arm, wrist and elbow.
